FAQ

  • What happens after I fill out an application?

After receipt of the adoption application, a Colorado Herding Dog Rescue representative begins reviewing applications. If we find a good fit, we will contact you within 2-4 days. You will have an opportunity to speak with the foster about the dog you wish to adopt. If you would like to move forward, you and the foster can agree on a day and time to meet the dog at the agreeable location.

  • How much does it cost to adopt?

Colorado Herding Dog Rescue is a registered non-profit and all volunteer-run organization. CHDR asks for a rescue donation of $350 to help defray some of the costs of spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm test, microchip ID, and other office, foster and transport costs incurred.

  • Can I visit the dog before adopting?

Of course! After speaking with the foster representative about the dog you wish to adopt, you and the foster can agree on a day and time to meet the dog at the agreeable location.

  • Can my other dog meet the dog?

Peace in the family is important. You may bring your family dog on a leash to the adoption meeting. Generally we know the adoptive dog’s temperment. Sometimes, based on history or foster family we may know how the dog interacts with cats.

  • What does Adoption Pending mean?

Although CHDR does not work on a first come first served basis for adoption applications we do honor the process once potential adopters make plans to meet a particular dog. We allow a few days to ensure this is a good match.

  • Why haven't I heard about my application?

There are a few reasons: we are still reviewing applications for that dog or the dog may be interviewing with another family. We do try to inform families that a particular dog has been adopted. Please be patient.
