Kato

Hartsell, CO - near Fairplay

Kato is very special dog. He came to us as a wild child so we sent him off to training as he is super athletic and would make a good competition, agility, flyball or disc dog.

Kato may be what is known as a Trifecta (Aussie/border collie/heeler). He is under 2 years old and 35 pounds.

Kato is a loving boy who loves attention and interaction with his people. He gets along with other dogs and will be OK with cats with a proper introduction.

His trainer Darby Maloney says: “Kato is very, very motivated by food, praise, and affection. His desire for praise alone borders on desperation. He'll melt just hearing how good he did.” See below for more about Kato. He has learned more than a dozen commands.

Kato is fully vetted, neutered and heart worm negative. He is a whole lotta dog but has benefitted from a month of professional training. With continued care and work he could blossom into a champ.

Remember, to be considered for a meet and greet you must fill out an application.

You need only fill out an application once.

Kato in action

Kato is a good boy.

More notes from Kato’s trainer Darby:

”Off leash skills have been a breeze for Kato. He has a fairly close natural orbit. With some more exposure to wildlife to be sure he won't go crittering, he has the makings of a great trail buddy. “

“And while Kato is obviously an active young dog, he doesn't need to go running marathons to be able to settle in the house. A little mental stimulation and time to get his sillies out and he's perfectly happy chilling at my feet”

Kato chilling on an trip to Tractor Supply. He was unsure of the Big Ass Fan (true brand name)— but he worked through it.

A final word from Darby:

“With all that potential comes the caveat that Kato is a soft/sensitive dog. While a stable life will continue to grow his confidence, heavy handed training methods could snuff out his interest in any activities.

He needs to be set up to succeed. He needs to know he did a good job. He needs clear criteria of what's expected of him. If you teach him what you want, he's going to do it enthusiastically and almost reflexively.

He's a good boy.”

With gratitude to trainer Darby Maloney.

Kato says: I will work for you. I will love you.
